unsure about rules for xfire

Hi all. I wanted to add a second vid card to go with my Asus HD3850. Can I add a 48xx or do I have to stick with the 38xx family?

I found this card:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1203815034383

but I really would like to go with this card if i can...

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1212192380239

Is vision-tec a quality brand? or am i just wasting my time looking at these.

Trying to keep my budget around $150.

My girlfriend works at BB so im hoping her discount can get me to that $150 range for the 4870.

rep+ for any help. Thanks in advance.

Rock on!

Has to be the same core.

48xx+48xx =
38xx+38xx =

Grab yourself a super cheap 3870 and you'll have a nice lil crossfire system.

A used 3870 shouldn't cost more than $75-$100 at the max. If you can get a 4870 for $150 new then stop wasting time typing and go buy it lol

As rpm666 said,t has to be the same core. A 3850 and 3870 will go together, as will a 4850 and 4870, but a 38x0 and 48x0 won't work together.

Any 3870 will work fine with your 3850. Brand doesn't matter, only core.

Im not worried that diff brands wont be compatible, im wondering about the quality of the vision-tec. Are they a reputable company or do they offer products that are sub-par.

VisionTek is a reputable company, but I'd suggest a Sapphire or Asus based on past experience with them.

Just a word of warning: 3870 and a 3850 won't perform any better than two 3850s.

Really? That I did not know. So you're saying to go with 2 3850's instead?

If you can get a 4870 for $150 get it.

If you can get a 3870 for less than $75-100 get it.

If you can find a 3850 for less than $50 get it.

Whichever bracket you fall into, go for it.

A 4870 would be a massive upgrade from the 3850.
