3850 x 2 or 9800gtx.

Thread Starter
just wondering which would perform better?

my mobo does 8x8 in xfire.
I would say the 9800GTX would preform better.

The speed of your Xfire really shouldn't be much to worry about, but you would get more longevity out of the 9800GTX over the 2 3850s and a bit more performance.

Stick with what you got. The 3850's will fail at AA.

Agreed, 9800gtx. I believe it wipes the floor with a 3850. Two won't really net you a whole lot in gaming, especially as mentioned when AA is used--they're crippled in AA. With AA enabled, my cheap 4670 beats them in gaming.

The HD3850 is a great card but I'd take one faster card over two slower cards any day. Stick with your 9800GTX. Multi-GPU performance is just not very reliable.

That's a hard one.

A few reviews:

Legit Reviews - 3850 X-Fire vs. 8800GTX and 8800Ultra (very similar to 9800GTX performance)
Tweak Town - 3850 X-Fire vs. an 8800GTS G92 (again, very similar to 9800GTX)
Overclockers Club - 3850 X-Fire vs. 8800GTX

I'd guess 2x HD3850 is probably in the same ballpark as a single 9800GTX, with obvious variations when it comes to scaling (good or bad) from Crossfire. The 3850 may also be lax in the AA department.

IMO, I'd keep a single card (since you already have it) over a pair of similar performing cards.

Keep single 9800GTX. You dont want to enter the world of trouble with CF.
