Help me finish picking my server hardware!! - Page 2

I went with a 4850be cpu but its been replaced by this one it seems. http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16819103298 You don't need anything that powerful for most types of servers, and you want the unit as a whole to be low power usage as it will be on all the time. Also servers idle a lot, they only do things when needed, e.g. renew a dhcp lease every 80 000 secs etc.

That Foxconn and the 4850e. Great stable board, 45W CPU to save a few dollars on power (unless of course you want more cores for other stuff).

Ok I have decided to go with these. I believe that they will give me the expandability that I want, plus the bonus of being AMD, which I have no experience with, and it will give me something new to play with

I will probably order them soon after I give it some more thought.

I am so happy

Sounds like you're trying to do the same thing as I with virtual machines. Take a look at my setup and notice that my RAID-5 controler comes with my server board as well as dual quad core sockets. And don't forget to stockup on a lot of ram; 4gb+.

not really... I am spending about the same amount on my whole server as you did on that motherboard.

I am looking for a budget low end server that will meet my needs and be a little expandable in the future... I am not trying to build something professional or high end. This is just a desktop running a server os.
