BFG GTX 260 c216 OC'ing problems/questions!!!

Thread Starter
OK guys (and gals), I've got a few questions here. I've got my GTX 260 216core OC2 from BFG stable at 725\\1553\\1350 using EVGA Precision OC utility, and it gets up to 52 C under full load, 38~40ish idle. first question: GPU-Z reads my OC as 725\\1553\\1350, but EVGA precision reads it as 729\\1458\\1296. why is that? driver problem or something? second question: I notice that whenever i run ATITool, my card makes an annoying squealing sound. it's only audible if i listen reaaaalll closely, and no other fans are running higher than medium speed (i.e. case fans). any ideas? and third question: what is the performance difference in a PCI-Express 2.0 x16 slot, or a PCI-Express 2.0 x8 slot? i ask because i have both in my mobo (GA-EP45-UD3P from gigabyte(great mobo btw!)), and with the location of the card in the x8 slot i would be able to cool it better... thanks in advance. Regards, the_geek

no expert here but i have the same card.. i have it at 750/1533/1280 haven't really pushed it harder as get good resutls in crysis like this. Not sure why but i have the latest driver from Nvidia and using EVGA precision i set the settings to a certain number and the actual graph display reads higher sometimes.. i know my core clock reads 754 in the graph when set to 750.. and so on besides i have to set the fan to 68% because it gets to the 60'sC under load. I think you're suppose to use the 16x slot and the 8 slot is only when SLi'ing which turns both slots into 8x.. dont quote me on that but i've read it somewhere else.

Both of you need to learn to use paragraphs.

As for the loud squealing, apparently it is the capacitors on the card itself that are stressed. It's normal, happens to my GPU when I fold on it.

can't use all the bandwidth in a x8 slot anyways...so no harm really talking about less than 1% of performance loss.

squeling is coil capacitors...sound is resoniting in the coil causing that sound. Hence why the pitch of the sound changes with different loads.

Last part...most likely straps or you aren't applying the settings in EVGA.

Folding@home (sometimes abbreviated as FAH or F@h) is a distributed computing (DC) project designed to perform computationally intensive simulations of protein folding and other molecular dynamics (MD). It was launched on October 1, 2000, and is currently managed by the Pande Group, within Stanford University's chemistry department, under the supervision of Professor Vijay Pande. Folding@home is the most powerful distributed computing cluster in the world, according to Guinness,[1] and one of the world's largest distributed computing projects.[2] The goal of the project is "to understand protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases."[3]
