WD Sync A Virus?

Thread Starter
Hey all,

McAfee is picking up WDSync.exe as a possible trojan. It's the executable for WD Sync, a Western Digital encryption and syncing program. Any idea why McAfee is freaking out?

Because it's Mcafee.

Maybe because the program actively seeks out drives when they are inserted? I don't know.

WD did have an outbreak recently where they did have a virus that shipped on their external drives, so it may be a virus.

Try to get the newest drivers for the HDD and see if McAfee's still finds it.

Seems its a common file kinda like svchost.exe that people plant viruses in as well as spyware and malware. If your virus scanner is picking it up then try to get a diffrent version of the file. Maybe from straight from WD. If it still shows it as a virus, then it may just be an error and i would suggest your contact macafee. Hope this helps..

This is a False Positive which means that the antivirus detects wd sync as a virus when it is not.

This is common for antivirus programs i guess it easier and safer to mark all programs as viruses than a virus as a program.

But this is now fixed you just need update your antivirus to the latest version. If you want to be sure contact the wd support team at www.dmailer.com

If you still have this problem with another program or antivirus program first update your antivrus if that fails then contact your antivirus company directly. These are generally quick to fix.

Hope this helps!
