How to: Wii Homebrew Guide - Page 3

So to clarify, if I go through this process, what benefit would there be to my 12 year old and her wii? DVD Player is unneeded so what other potential uses could it have?

Well, you could play the enjoyment of Doom? Every twelve year old needs that.

List of different Wii Homebrew Programs

Other then that, you can play (NES, SNES, GC, Sega, N64) ROMS (which defeats the purpose of the Wii Store.
Play "Backup" games when you modify the IOS files.
Stream Music
File Server
Make it more like a XBox or PS3
Run Homebrew Games

There is alot of stuff that you can do.

When buying, there is no way to tell. If you are buying right now, it will prolly ship with 3.3 or 3.4.
I just bought mine this past Monday and the wii keeps asking if I want to upgrade my firmware but I haven't done so yet.

What does the backup loader do?

I read something online that troubled me and I quote "The reader/spinner is only meant for data bursts, so about 4 sec. Continuously running the dvd would cause your dvd drive to break/burn out faster."

My question to everyone who has a wii, have any of you experience any malfunctioned due to the playing of DVD's?

P.S great thread guide, I'll be sure to check up on this

i have had zero problems with my wii, but I have watched like 10 dvds. Its just nice if you don't have a dvd player when you go on vaca.

I have had a little problem with mine, mine makes clicking noises when it reads any disc. Though, I contribute that to homebrew of any kind.
