Need advice on TRUE, Fans, and more.

Thread Starter
Hey guys i've been searching this site as a guest for about two weeks now, and still had some questions so i thought i would join and make a post.

I use to build my own comps but haven't since 2000 (that rig lasted me up until last month), it was P4 1.7ghz OC to 2.0, 1gb RD ram with an MCX460 (i believe) and many many adda fans. I use to know all the info but kinda fell out of the loop and forgot everything, for example i can't even find adda fans anymore.

Anyway here's the new parts i just bought from tigerdirect, i hope you guys can give me advice on the selection and what else is needed.

sound card http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...E=WEBLET03SHIP

power supply http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...E=WEBLET03SHIP

video card http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...E=WEBLET03SHIP

mother board http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...E=WEBLET03SHIP

cpu http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...E=WEBLET03SHIP

ram http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...E=WEBLET03SHIP

hard drive http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...=WEBLET03ORDER

I'll be using an LG DVD burner also.

Now to my questions. I have this HDD cooler http://www.frozencpu.com/products/28...?tl=g40c18s238 and i'm wondering if these things are really any good or just a waste of power.

Also do you guys think that the 650W power supply is enough as i plan on running two intake fans and one exhaust, one fan on my heat sink and hopefully something else on the hard drive or maybe even video card.

My main question now is that i want to run a TRUE but am intimidated by its huge size, i won't move the tower at all but it seems like it will put a whole lot of stress on the motherboard so i was thinking about running the smaller one http://www.frozencpu.com/products/62...l?tl=g40c14s52, as i don't really plan on overclocking it past 3ghz, if that even.

What do you guys think is it even worth it to get the small one or just be safe and get the actual true. I will be lapping per instructions i found on the site, but am still confused on which brackets and setup i need to make this work. If someone can please identify what setup i need to make this work and also recommend some fans for the TRUE and my case (lian Li aluminum), i would greatly appreciate it.

Sorry for the very very long post

Berj

TRUE won't put stress on the board, it also has a backplate to support it.

Also is there a reason why you're using TD?

EDIT: HDD coolers are pointless, your case should have airflow over them already.

It's known that Neweggs customer service puts TD's to shame. And can I recommend you some parts? (if so, budget please)

Well, you may want to return some parts. Return the 9500GT and get at least an 8800GT. Return the P5N-D and get a good P45 board (tons in the same price range). And return the sound card and get a better one imo.

i don't do anything gaming just internet surfing and music and alot of office work. I watch videos and movies but at that point it will be connected to my t.v. so the sound card wouldn't even matter. And i had a better soundcard before but never noticed a difference because my speakers aren't too crazy i run my sound through my AIWA home entertainment center.

Also what benefits is there to getting the other series of motherboard. And benefits to the sound card as well.

thanks

P45 boards can OC way better than NVIDIA boards (especially the non-reference Asus NVIDIA boards.)

At the moment these two are amazing OCers (same board, just one has an extra PCIe slot)

And a better sound card, well, offers better sound quality. But that also depends on the audio quality on the movies/music and what the sound card is outputting too.

I don't think i will be doing really much of any overclocking as i probably won't notice the difference for the things i'll be doing and i don't want to reduce stability and longevity of my processor.

If you are not gonna overclock, you really dont need an aftermarket HS. MAYBE a freezer 7 pro if you wanna stay a lil cooler than stock HS.

Edit: Sorry just noticed your CPU is OEM, so if I were you id get the freezer 7 pro its great if you are not gonna overclock, and is even great for a mild overclock.
