[08:53:09] Client-core communications error: ERROR 0x7b
[08:53:09] This is a sign of more serious problems, shutting down.

What? When I shut down the core and try to restart it, it tells me that I have missing work files when I haven't been messing with them, and that there is a "Client-core communications error: ERROR 0x1"

Anything that can be done to salvage the WU, or am I starting over? Will deleting the work files and starting up again even help? Thanks guys.

try deleting just deleting the core so it downloads a new one.. if it still persists.. then delete work, queue, myfolding, unitinfo files/folders and start again.

Well, I've deleted the core, queue, and work folder and restarted. The problem persisted.

Next I completely removed everything related to folding, reinstalled, and started again. Same problem.

Some extra information that could be helpful: I'm using the Windows MPICH SMP 6.22 client on XP. This client works on my other two machines, also running XP. The client will SEEM to work until it gets to 49%, then it crashes from a fatal error with an early work unit end...I've verified this 3 times, it always crashes right before it's due for 50%. I'm using -smp, -advmethods, and -forceasm tags for this machine as well as on my other two machines.

Can you guys help me get this machine folding again?

Is this CPU or GPU? Is the system stable?

Here's an excerpt from the FaHWiki:
Quote:
This is an unknown error from the fahlog of SMP clients. Because 0x7b is not defined in the F@h client or SMP fahcore, it is believed to be a Windows or SMPD/MPICH error code. Known causes are unstable systems from too much overclocking, changing network settings while the client is running, or stopping restarting the client. The error is also caused by Windows updates that need to restart your machine. See the List of Known Issues.

Here's one more possiblity:
(0X7B Problem with Windows SMP Client solved by MichaelO)
The 0X7B Error that many folks have gotten when using the Windows SMP client is not an error from the Folding Client, but rather from Windows itself according to the Folding Forums, Wiki, etc. I had increasingly started having this problem on one of my machines. This morning I was notified that my Acronis backups had failed in the Verify Step. Upon researching this error in the Acronis forums, it was suggested that the Acronis error was caused by a memory fault. I found this a little hard to swallow at first but after having 0X7B problems this morning after rebooting to try and solve my backup issue I decided to start changing the memory, and sure enough, once I replace my 2 x 1024 memory Pair the problems in both Acronis and the Folding Client disappeared.

Based on this, I would suggest that if you start getting errors on the folding client, you should first try testing your installed memory thoroughly. Windows XP is fairly forgiving about memory faults but Vista is more stringent, and the SMP Client, especially on a dual core is also not very forgiving once the memory starts to go bad.
Looks like it's time to check your memory and if that's not the problem then I would recheck any overclocks you've got.

E6400, my sig rig. Yes, it's quite stable, it's been OC'ed that way for several months of folding...this is a new problem. If it were unstable, why would it always crash at the same point?

Because the problem is at the same point in your hardware. Try switching your RAM sticks around.

Had the same problem, I dont if this will help you. Create a folder just for each smp client and reinstall into it, and name it what you like. It seems that if there's another folding client nearby in your folders or in appdata, smp looks in another work folder or something of the sort. It fixed it for me creating the new folder.
