[CustomPC]Less than a quarter of Steam users have a DirectX 10 rig - Page 2

There are very little gains to be had from DX10 hardware, other than the expected performance increase in DX9/OGL games. I feel that DX10 hardware is simply bought because it runs more accepted rendering modes (ie: DX9 and OpenGL) better than older hardware, not for the superficial graphical benefits from DX10.
DirectX 10 IS a rather major step above DX9 its just we've got all of about one game (Far Cry 2) that is built around the API. Almost every other DX10 are just DX9 ports with a couple of bells and whistles. Far Cry 2 shows that a proper DX10 game can create better imagery whilst boasting better performance as well.

Yea. I think the whole price misconception is stupid and ignorant. For example, a user on the Steam forums posted a thread about GTA4.

"My $5000 computer won't play GTA4!"

Turns out he had a prebuilt Dell or something that cost him $5k 3 years ago.

OEM's and ignorance are the devil.

Well I've got a DX10 capable GPU, just not OS! I cheaped out and used a copy of XP instead of $100 for Vista.

Crysis hacked to run in Very High mode on DX9 looks better than FC2 on max settings DX10.

Now you're comparing two different game engines...

So somehow another game having a better engine makes DX9 better?

The difference is that Far Cry 2 both looks better and performs better under dx10 than it does under dx9. It's just that simple. Far Cry 2 utilizes DX10 better, and hopefully more games will follow suit in the near future.
