Best motherboard for Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - Page 2

My 750i FTW did a nice job of overclocking my Q6600 at 3.2GHz on stock volts
Currently testing my Q9550 at 3.825 at 1.32V.

It's going to take a little bit of skill, but if you put in the effort it's actually a nifty little board.

ehh...I understand what your saying about the Intel Chipset. But idk I was really wanting to stay with NVIDIA cause I have really liked them and I have gone through a lot of ATi stuff but idk...

Hey buddy,

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...Tpk=780i%20ftw

Don't know if they make the 750i FTW anymore actually, but this one has come down in price recently. It overclocks decently, you just have to be patient with it. Definitely not as easy as a Gigabyte P45, but it will do the job, especially if you need SLI.

If you do paln SLI, then take a look at Asus P5Q-E, Gigabyte EP45-DS3R or X48-DS4 depending on the budget.

Yeah, I have around a $450 budget right now, I think I may be able to go a tiny bit higher than that but not much at all!

That is the FTW board. Take a look at the picture of the box (also notice the solid capacitors on the board). For some reason, Newegg doesn't label it as the FTW edition.

my xfx does well for me.. got me 4+ghz on my dualie.

the eVGA 780iFTW edition should be even better than my board as they redid it all out of higher quality components than nvidia used in the base model.

Here are the best price/performance boards:

eVGA 750i FTW for SLI

Gigabyte EP45-UD3P for crossfire
*Note* this is one of only 2 boards I know of that will push 500 FSB OC with quads (the second being the $400 Rampage Extreme w/ddr3)

I'm partial to the Asus Striker II Extreme after having purchased it and seen first hand how easily it OC'd a q6600 to 3.6 without flinching. It holds it's voltages really well and vdroop is almost a non issue. Plus it supports triple SLI if you decide to get really crazy in the future. Lots of little extras too make it a winner in my book, although the only things that was a knock against it was the price seems a tad high but you get what you pay for and IMO the quality is indeed there.
