First Build - 1K

Thread Starter
Starting on Friday when all components arrive.

Intel Q6600 Core2Quad 2.4 gHz
2x2 OCZ Platinum DDR2 SDRAM
ASUS P5N-D
XFX 9800 GTX+
WD HD Velociraptor 10000RPM 150GB
AC7 CPU Cooling
PC Power & Cooling 750W PSU

Went with the NZXT Guardian 921 case, good looking but cooling capacity is questionable.

Looking to OC up to 3.0 or 3.2 gHz in a couple of days. Will let you know how it turns out.

Already checked out the P5N-D thread, gonna use the Vcore, NB, HT, SB, and FSB values and play around.

Any suggested OC values for 3.0-3.2 gHz on the P5N-D and Q6600? I heard the new batch of Q6600 was maxing out at 3.4, anyone confirm?

Thanks for the help!

Not really an answer to your question but,

That AC7 cooler is not very efficient for cooling a quad-core. They're acceptable for a dual-core (but not amazing) and will cool a *stock* quad-core to acceptable temps but I would recommend a Xigmatek HDT-S1283 or a TRUE with a decent fan for good temps while overclocking that Q6600

TY for the input. You're right the AC7 is satisfactory right now. Idle at stock levels is about 33C. Could be lower. I plan to OC tomorrow to 3.0 or 3.2 and see how it goes. But so far everything has gone much better than I had hoped for my first build. Posted on first start no real problems so far.

Those temps aren't bad, but what are your full load temps?

nice setup and gl with the oc. guardian case has good aesthetics but not so good air flow. If your considering a switch, I suggest a Lian-Li.

The air flow sucks + I have a plethora of extra cables from the PSU all over the place where zip ties really wouldn't help much.

But I am at 3.0 gHz idle 33C load 55C. 30 min of Prime got it to max at 62C.
