Memtest 2.01+ - how come it fails every block of memory?!

H/W:

Asus P5Q Deluxe (BIOS 1200, not yet upped to 1406)
CPU: Intel Q9550 (not o/c)
RAM: four GSkill 1GB modules (DDR2-800, 5-5-5-18) = 4GB
All voltages set to auto except RAM, which is 2.1v

I even did a hard reset of the CMOS via the jumper and memtest won't last 30 seconds before going red and for everything it tests.

I never used memtest before and the computer had been working fine. I did try to o/c to 400MHz FSB, reboot, then did memtest to be sure. It seemed to work for 40 minutes fine. Powered the machine off, then came back to it 6 hours later as I was going to do an all nite burn-in test. That's when the failing started.

The only thing I've not done is to take out individual RAM modules.

Note that Asus' internal app allowing internet/skype/etc seems to run fine. If all my RAM was bad, the system wouldn't last half a second...

What can I try apart from removing individual RAM modules?

should I download another ram diagnostic program to be sure?

Thx!

You have G.Skill RAM.

If your memory is failing then it's either your RAM or northbridge. Set your system back to stock (Load Optimized Defaults) and try one stick at a time. If all 4 fail when each is run individually, then it's most likely your mobo.

To run 4 modules in my setup, I had to increase the vdimm a little as well as the nb voltage. Try a slight increase to both.

Please test the RAM individually.

One DIMM at a time.

If they all pass, you know it's likely NB voltage or subtimings or vDIMM that needs to be tweaked with all 4.

And if you get a good one testing fine, update BIOS to 1406 at least...i do not remember any 1200 one.
DO NOT update bios unless the RAM tests good unless you want to brick the board though, & use EZ Flash (ALT + F2). (Not Windows, it's another way to brick the board since Asus Update is evil garbage)
