As the title says I would like to get my Q9550 passed 4Ghz. I have been suggested the "GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P", Is the the board to get? I would like to spend less than $160.

That board is really good! Seeing as you have a 4870X2 you probably don't need SLI so that would be a good choice.

Before you upgrade though... you have a Maximus Forumla, which is a really good board also.. I would make sure that you've tried your best with it before going the Gigabyte. Tweak all the GTL lanes etc... you might be able to get 4GHz without switching motherboards.

Also, what stepping is you Q9550? Mine is E0 and on my 750i FTW it does 3.825 easy as cake. However if you have a C1 stepping it might not clock as far as you want.

That is the best board to get to push 500 Fsb + on a quad. Dont think twice, get it!

Yeah Crossfire isn't really a big deal to me.

Well Techinicly now I don't have the board anymore as it has just been sold. I spent two days trying to get the board to get me to 4Ghz with my chip but it wouldn't happen.

I have the C1 stepping. My real goal is 4.5Ghz, and if the next board I get wont do it then I will be in the market for a Dice or LN2 pot.

Yeah, the UD3P is the best board on the market ATM:

Here is Robilar's thread with links to XS:

I wanted to get to cold benching this weekend, but have the flu, so that might need to wait til next week unless I can at least muster enough energy to drop the single stage on it. Picking up DI or LN2 tomorrow isn't likely at this point, but I'll post results when I get them.

Here is a quad core at 500 FSB

Closest stable was 490x9 with the MIIF. I've only had 1 BSOD with this board and it only took an hour for the beginnings of an oustanding OC session.
This is what i call FUN! I've booted into windows at 533X8 only to get my 1 and only BSOD after 10-15 seconds.
That was with no extra voltage over what i'm running now. I'll be checking for max FSB Next.

Thanks to napalm for some bios settings.

@xlastshotx: Go for it. I just ordered one yesterday from the Egg and it will arrive Friday. I'm currently running an Abit IP35-Pro w/ Q9550 E0 stepping. I'm stuck at 450 FSB (3.825 GHz). I'm hoping to hit 470-480 FSB with this Gigabyte board. If you do end up getting it, be sure to upgrade to beta bios F7a (or newer if there is one by then). I've read in a few places that this is the best version for overclocking 45nm CPU's.

@M4DM4N, just FYI there is a typo in your signature. There is no G0 stepping for the Q9550 (you're thinking of the Q6600).

4.5Ghz is a bit hard to get because you need around 530FSB which the gigabyte may struggle. From what i heard they are good up to 510FSB but still better then other P45.
