Yea, they just use different methods. Both have their pros and cons. Just because it's 2 PCBs doesnt mean its going to be double the heat. Heat depends upon the chips' design and the power rating.

4870X2 is a single and people should get other this. GTX295 in the other hand is to cards in a sandwich which is totally different.

Both cards take up 2 slots and plug into a single lane, what makes them completely different? the companies just use a different method to accomplish 2 GPU's in a single card, while i would much prefer ATI's method, other then heat what is this "totally different" nonsense come from?

I've always loved the design of the dual GPU nVidia cards. The reference casing, ATi's is nice too but it looks like a cleaver.

Just so you know, the single PCB design isn't any more advantageous than the dual pcb design.

Lets say you had two exact cards, same cores, same power rating but one was a sandwich design the other was like the 4870x2. Now both give out the same amount of heat from the PCB (memory modules, die, VRMs, etc) , but because the sandwich design has double the surface area it would be more efficient in losing heat thus staying cooler.

The reason nvidia's sammich card (9800GX2) is hotter than both the 3870x2/4870x2 is because the G92 core used is 65nm and itself gives out a lot of heat, not because of the sammich design.

Yes but 8800GTS is a lot cooler then 4870.Anyways this me taking and defending about cards i will never own.
