q9450 Coolermaster V8

Thread Starter
Okay i just bought a coolermaster V8 and applied some thermal paste, i spread it out evenly like i was supposed to, but im getting 40degrees idle and around 50 degrees full load, with that heatsink shouldnt it be a lot lower, and how long does the thermal paste take to burn in?

Arctic Silver 5 can take up to 200hrs but from the research I've done, most other high-performance TIMs (MX-2, Shin-etsu, IC Diamond) have almost no break-in period.

What are you using to monitor your temperatures and are you sure the TJ Max is adjusted properly?

Also, make sure you're not putting too much thermal paste. Too much can be as bad as too little. And I don't know what you mean by spread it out evenly, but generally you should just put a little in the middle and let the cooler squash it and spread it evenly.

For a Quad core like yours you should do a thine line across the middle of your processor to cover both cores. There's a tutorial on the Arctic Silver website.

What core voltage are you running?

What temp monitor?

And do you have the V8 tightly secured?

With my Tuniq Tower 120, 9450@3.8 1.29vCore - I'm looking at 35C idle and 55C load.

100C TJMAX on realtemp?

Just seems fishy - maybe stuck sensor on 9450? My core 0 and core 1 will stay at 32C until they drop below 15C.

50* full load doesn't sound that bad....
40* at idle seems a little high, maybe 6-8* depending on your ambient temps.

I have a completely different set up (dual core + hdt-s1283) but I would expect your temps to be lower (32*/56* are the MAX I have seen here @ 23* ambient) because I run 1.43v and have a smaller cooler.

What scares me is saying you "spread the paste out like you were supposed to"

uhhh I don't know what to say except...you AREN'T supposed to spread it out! You're supposed to put it in a line and let the even force from the heatsink spread it out. I "spread" some AS5 on my s1283 to make sure I got in all the cracks, but it was too much and the temps weren't great. I later put a thin line down the middle of the processor and it has worked great since then. I plan on filling in the cracks *slightly* on the hdt and then using a small line on the processor next time around, to try to use more of the surface area of the exposed pipes.

guys..50C full load is pretty darned good.....idle temps should really be ignored on these chips because:

a) who cares about idle temps
b) they are inaccurate below 36-39c
