I'm about to buy an inexpensive MSI.

What's so wrong with them?

Be it an EVGA GTX 280 or an MSI GTX 280 -- it's still the same hardware underneath the stickers. Unless you're avoiding them due to lousy customer service, or shopping for a mobo, then yeah, I'd avoid MSI lol. One hast failed me in the past. Their video cards though, I think are a different story.

for an example; have you heard people rave of MSI's customer service? no but i have heard bad things while never hearing anything bad from evga amazingly. does MSI have any kind of step up program??? nope but EVGA does. EVGA = 24/7 telephone tech support while MSI's site seems to only have a FAQ.

I have done probably 10 mail in rebates from various companies such as xigmatek, corsair, evga etc.. but evga's $40 rebate was sitting in my mail box in only two weeks! while the others took two months minimum, thats a huge difference. i even had to call xigmatek twice to make sure they accepted my rebate. that kind of good experience with a company is what makes people stick with them and avoid other companies because they get their job done FAST and take care of their customers.

Just an example, i have never owned anything MSI so i have nothing negative to say about them

They're just not overclocker friendly.

Bah that last thing's bothersome.

Wanted to go with this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127361

get an extra $15 off.

closest thing to that is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130370

not sure I have the extra $35 bucks right now ($42 w/ shipping, the msi's free shipping). Probably wouldn't step up but the option'd be there, and there have been reports of people recieving 216's instead of 192's.

That extra $42 is buying me a dvd-r and (partially) a set of decent headphones.

ARGH.

you mean about Brythe saying it wont overclock well? i personally find that hard to believe considering they are identical cards with identical coolers. unless he can show you some proof about MSI's card not overclocking as well as the EVGA i dont see any reason to believe that. you are purchasing the same card but at the same time buying that specific companies warranty customer service etc.. or maybe even a better cooler, but these are identical.
