memory leak?

Thread Starter
I have a MSI P7N Diamond and 4gb(4 sticks) of Crucial PC2-6400 memory. The problem is, when i extract any huge file or install any game, taking crysis for an example, my memory will start to decrease until it is roughly 99% used up and my pc starts lagging. even if the installation is completed, something does not want to release my memory, it remains at 99%(~50mb) until I restart my computer.

I am using vista ultimate x64 with sp1.

vista utilizes ram. There is nothing wrong with that. RAM is supposed to store memory as temp files for quick access to it.

As long as you are running stuff on vista your ram will be used up. If its not being used, you are not using the potential of your ram.

I would recommend to check your processes. I have a same problem with my DMW Client, it's anti-cheat program for MoH:AA. When I'm playing with it, I'll be lagging really bad, because the RAM usage goes over 2.00GB.

i tested this out on a fresh install of vista, the same thing happens. checked the installer using task manager after the installation is completed and it's not there. so i assume that it has ended. there are also no other programs in task manager with high memory usage.

happens to me occasionally, pretty rare but pretty annoying...

Vista is bad. I'm going to stay with XP as long as possible.

Yes, Vista is BAD at utilizing memory... Utilizing memory isn't a bad thing but Vista goes overboard and actually causes system performance to suffer. The only reason I use Vista is for the visuals. It offers nothing in terms of stability and performance by any means compared to XP.

It's a crap OS. Maybe windows 7 will be a little better?
