[TweakGuides] PC Game Piracy Examined - Page 2

Nothing wrong with this thread - keep it to discussion of piracy as a "thing" and stay away from the specifics such as programs, methods, links, and we'll be fine

The risks involved in console piracy are much higher then on the pc, HP doesn't care if you pirate COD4, but Microsoft and Sony do. Also the fact that there are a lot more console games being sold, then pirated would indicate that most people don't want to put in the effort to mod their console for free stuff.
NOT entirely true. In many cases it is NOT that easy.

Here is a little story about me when I was 18.

I got a NB Xbox for Xmas. I had 1 game for a whole year and was not able to afford new ones. So that next Xmas I talked my mom into getting me a modchip. EDITED BY MOD REQUEST ( took about 30 minutes total. At that point it was just as simple as going to a (edited) and doing a search for you all know what. Then I learned that all I had to do was rent a game and rip it right to the 320GB HD I installed. So (someone) ended up having Xbox's entire shooter library for FREE. Yeah it was that easy to play, when I shut the system down no longer needed the disk to play, and then took the disk back to BB for a refund.

Now that I am grown up have a job and better morals I look down at this kind of stuff. I look down at game pirates, they make situations like this... getting me all fueled and upset with all the misinformed users out there that have never touched on piracy. They only know from the articles they read, which are nearly ALWAYS bias.

I tell you all here on OCN CONSOLE ARE EASIER TO PIRATE. I SAY IT FROM EXPERIENCE WHEN I WAS A KID.

I AM AGAINST PIRACY SO KEEP YOU INFRACTION BUTTONS AT BAY PLEASE.

so why do you think people pirate games? for fun?!
its either because financial situation, faster way to get the game and others i cant think of now ...
in my country for example, where the minimum wage is 560RON ... and a games costs ~200RON with shipment, people rather pirate games than pay for them ... what would you do if u had for ex 800$ job and a game would cost 300$?
and for the record ... 560RON is 200$ ... yes i know its pathetic

Thats the only console that that was possible on, due to the fact its essentially a PC running a scaled down version of windows 2k, nintendo and sony consoles are in a different league of their own, not going to get into any more specifics, since its against the TOS.

For the record this makes me upset because now I have to worry about dev no longer making games for my 2000.00 machine, turning it into an email checking paper weight.

IMO it is cop-out so that they do not have to make a game with scalable graphics. It can be alot tougher to make a good PC game than a console game. Due to all the different HW on all the different PC out there dev need to make sure it runs on as many systems as possible as to make everyone they can happy. With a console just make the game troubleshoot it and release it SIMPLE.

I have lived on both side of the fence for years on each. I have all the experience I need to speak on this issue. Anyone that think PC pirating is easier than console it full of it and needs to actually try it before making an assumption. Better yet don't do it because that would not be the right way to go about it. So instead if you have not personally pirated consoles A N D PC games just don't post.

Then why are console games available on the 'net before they even come out? This article makes a lot of assumptions. If you allow them, he makes a good point, but if you look at reality...there is something wrong with $60 video games and the industry in general. The target audience can't afford to spend that much on a hobby, and these days neither can the parents. I used to do odd jobs and mow lawns for video game money, but at today's prices I would have had to do a LOT of chores to get my gaming fix.

I think the reason PC games are downloaded more than console games is because to download the console game you need a PC (to get the game), and then some way to play it on the console (that's what I heard anyway) so rather than take all that time, they might just get the PC version instead because PC gaming is far superior if you have a good system (most games are more open-ended, mouse+keyboard=awesome, higher definition, etc) rather than go through the hassle of all the extra steps to play it on a console. Plus, the PS3 isn't hacked...maybe that's why nobody buys it?

^^ I did exactly the same thing, I even had Linux on mine. I had an external DVD drive to speed everything up and a switch that would turn the mod off so I could play on live.

Now I don't need to pirate since as you do I have a nice job were I can afford to buy any game or program I want.

I'm taking this is directed at me, I don't know why you don't think I know how to do "stuff", and I can assure you my technical aptitude is higher then a lot of people, I'm just not going to incriminate myself or post anything against the TOS out of respect for this site, so I guess thats the end of my posts in this thread.

This is true of a LOT of things. Sadly, due to the way the market works, people overspend on things they want, rather than things they need.
I'm as guilty of this as anyone else. Greed goes both ways.
