I'm wondering if the power hog trend is going to continue. Will they find a way to improve performance while decreasing peak power use? Shouldn't smaller process tech make the chips more efficient?

They do make them more efficient

Can you imagine the amount of power needed to match the performance of a 4870 a few years back?
