Want to upgrade - need help - Page 3

Hey G-Byte.
I don't think I'm going to be replacing my monitor anytime soon. I'm comfortable with it and don't need a huge monitor for my gaming.
Sounds weird I know but I'm happy enough with my 17" LCD.
The huge resolutions don't bother me THAT much to warrant me getting a larger monitor.
Not yet anyway. I'm sure after I upgrade my card I'll want to see how good it looks on a bigger screen. But for now it will do me fine.

I can get a PNY 9600GT OC XLR8 from play.com for under £95.
I think I'm going to get that.

I am slightly concerned about my PSU though. Patience isn't a virtue I have unfortunately.
I'm sure my 500w PSU with max output of 34A would be able to handle it though, right?

How about this card, it's not nVidia but its a good card (comparable with a 9800GTX+ I think)

typically, you wanna get at least a 3.0ghz overclock on the cpu to eliminate some bottleneck, especially for your x3 phenom.. so if you can, id try to oc ur processor above 3.0 and get a new videocard u still have a pretty nice system

Ah yeah but now you're talking about something that if I do and destroy any part of my PC, I'm going to be saving for a long while before I can come back to overclock.net!
Haha.

I thought my Phenom was quite funky considering the price...
But I think I'll go with the majority and just upgrade my card for now.

Oh ya, that will do nicely. And your psu will do for now too. If you every think larger for lcd and a better gpu then it would be a good thing for thinking about a better psu. Even a AAA name @ 500w would be better but I think it also might depend on where you live, idk for sure. I got a corsair and I am happy with it. So game on, play on, and have some fun.

Thanks G-Byte. Thats given me some peace of mind.
Whats kinda annoyed me though is that my 8600 is only two months old as I bought it after some advice from a few other people on the net.
Ohwell.

ya frrom all that I have read the 86 died quite fast even before the 88/96 card came out. I was researching ati mobo/gpus just before my bday in July and had what I wanted all planned out...them the store had my mobo on a 2 week delay. I spent the fastest 2.5 days re-researching nvidia options and I am pretty please with the evga gpus and by February I should have both my 9800gtx+ cards running. I think that will do me for a short while
