Want to upgrade - need help - Page 4

Ok, I think I might have run into a problem.
After just checking again, I've only got 1 free 4 pin molex connector.
I have one going to my DVD drive and a free one down the bottom near my HD.

Is this a huge problem for running a 9600GT?
Am I going to have to rethink my upgrade options again?

Thanks.

@G-Byte:
I need a better job to keep up with PC gaming haha. And more balls to try new things with my hardware.
Plus also knowledge of what I'm actually doing helps too.

You can look for a molex splitter, it'll take one and make two for you, a few bucks for it

And I just plug that splitter into the one free molex I've got then plug in my card?

Would the 9600 not run on just one molex?

It needs two molex connectors on one line. Other card owners made a point of telling me that when I first got it.

I'm getting a headache.
All I want is to play games fairly decently
Haha.
Ok. I'm going to buy a new PSU. An Xpower Light 480w. I dunno if its any good but its what I'm getting. I have checked and it has a PCI-E 6 pin connector on it so thats good enough for me!
Then I'll get the PNY 9600GT OC XLR8 then I will be sorted.

For now anyway...

EDIT:
I've currently got a 500w so going down to a 480 isn't going to cause any complications for me is it?

I should think so altough 20W can be the difference between stablity and un-stabilty.

Seriously DO NOT SKIMP OUT ON YOUR PSU!!!!!!

Thats really important and is worth the extra bux to spend on it.

I would reccomend a corsair or ultra or OCZ or thermaltake, something of that nature.
Do some research on it first and check reviews. Dont just buy any one with a PCI-E 6 pin in it.

Thanks for all your replies.
I'm set to get PNY 9600GT OC XLR8.
I'm also set to get a new PSU.
After speaking to the guy who built my comp he said a 480w PSU would be enough to handle my system as long as the efficiency is above 80%.
After some more research on the Xpower Light 480w PSU, I've found that it has an efficiency rating of greater than 80%.

So I'm under the impression that this will suit my set up.

Am I right?

Hi Vizual,

Well man...what are you waiting for? Get them bought before we change your mind.

You will be good for sometime to come for now. Remember if a component needs more power your psu has to be able to give it back.

And good luck with it. Post into the appropriate group if you have anymore trouble.

Haha. Thanks.
I'll be getting the gear beginning of next week so depending on whether I short out any components during the installation [or myself for that matter] I shall report back if I have any probs.

However if you never hear from me again, I've either electrocuted myself or blown up my rig.

Either way, thanks again for all your help.
