Installing games onto the eee pc and other notebooks

Thread Starter
(sorry if its in the wrong section)

Ive just bought an eee pc 901 (with xp) and am currently trying to get my head around how to install such games as age of empires 2 and hitman 2 onto it.

I dont have an external cd drive, but i do have a usb memory stick which i was planning to store games on.

How would i go about this? ive failed to find anything of any real use and just need someone to outline the easiest way to store these games on the usb stick.

I was planning to somehow mount the images of games all onto the memory stick, and then install them onto the eee's SSD, and then make sure that the usb stick is plugged in when playing the games. would this work?

If the above is a bit mental, its all the more reason to help

any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

I have no idea basically. My main concern is trying to run AOEII on an EEEPC.

Are you sure it will work? I wouldn't have even thought about it if i owned a 901.

There are various lists on various websites of lists of games which do work, there are also quite a few youtube videos too, have a look if you have the chance.

Steam will work, so ill probably download both half life and hitman, but there is a way to get non steam games to work i just dont understand how.

any ideas?

Oh right, in that case.. Look into Alcohol 120% or Daemon tools. If you rip the CD Image onto a PC, the pop said image onto a memory stick, then load it with Alcohol or Daemon (which you previously installed on your eee), it should/might load.

Alcohol and Daemon are virtual drive programs see.. As long as you've got the game's disc image somewhere, the .iso file, you should be ok. They do get pretty big though, so make sure you have the space.

That's just a (poorly written) basic jist of what you're trying to do.. I think.

Right, thanks. My main concern was the absence of the disk, but that doesnt seem to be an issue with the iso mounted on the usb stick.

but yeah i can see it taking up quite a bit of space, might have to invest in a 16gb SD card for my 'work'...

ill just have a mess about with daemon tools and see how it turns out.

Isn't mounting an iso illegal?

Surely not if you own a legal copy of the disc you're taking it from? It's just backing it up essentially.

Then again, i'm not entirely sure.

For my netbook I bought an IDE/Sata -> usb adapter. As the title states, it turns hard drives and optical drives into usb drives (plug and play). It cost me $8 shipped because I got it used. You can pick them up for under $20 shipped.

When I don't use it to create an "external" optical drive for my netbook, I use it to create an "external" hard drive out of my spare internal parts.
