cant overclock 680i and q6600 - Page 4

If you aren't going to do SLI then just get the same Gigabyte board all the rest of us are buying. It'll have no problem taking your Q6600 to 4GHz or more if the chip can handle it.

If you ARE going to do SLI in the very near future, then go Core i7.

why are u wasting money on a new board? ur board is fine. i had a 680i SLi board and a 1.325VID Q6600 @ 3.4ghz with a proven CPU-Z and ss'd Prime95 stress test loaded 9 hrs no problem.

and to clarify SPP on the 680i is the NB and the MCP is the SB. dont believe me then go find then "unclassified" 680i tweaking guide "leaked" by nvidia.

as to the OP, why dont u try EVERYTHING at auto voltages. and run 2.8ghz. on the 680i + Q6600 setup i had it running auto everything with 2.99ghz on a STOCK fan. under water i had it at 3.4ghz. so before u go wasting money just be a little patient. OCing takes time.

EDIT: Overclocking Guide page 12. look at the blown-out diagram of how each component "talks" to each other and u notice the SPP is everything the Northbridge is supposed to do.

I would still like to know the part number of the OP board...I have a feeling that it is not the NF68-A1 or the NF68-T1. Just a hunch...

that still doesnt make any difference in him getting to 3.0ghz. he cant even do 2.7ghz.

Agreed...but if he does have the NF68 - then he SHOULD be able to get to 3.0GHz and he needs to just be patient and play with the settings a bit...

If he DOES NOT have the NF68 - then it doesn't matter how much he plays with it - he CAN'T get to 3.0GHz...

Set RAM back to Linked and Synced! Unlink it later once you've got a nice CPU OC.

It makes ALL the difference man. I've used 2 680i boards. A TR and an A1. The TR could not go any higher than 2.74Ghz, while the A1 was good up to 3.8GHz or so.

Yep...that board lacks the reference voltage to overclock a quad core. No matter what you do, it will cap out somewhere in the 2.6 - 2.8GHz range. It will OC the heck out of a dual-core - but your SOL for quads. I got rid of my NF63 a little while back and replaced it with the 780i and I love it.

Sorry my friend...your board is just not right for your chip (at least as far as overclocking is concerned)
