Buying a laptop for my mom

Thread Starter
My mom is really into Photoshop but her computer is pretty slow, so I'm thinking about getting her a new one. She wants a laptop, and she already has a monitor + keyboard/mouse so we can just hook it up to that. I'm looking at a used M1710, the 2GHz w/ 4 GB version (unless 2 would be enough?) - that's just over $1000. I was wondering if there's anything in the <$1000 range, or even <~$700, that would work? All it needs to do is run CS3 smoothly, she won't be doing any gaming on it. Thanks

I have an XPS M1710 which I'm typing this on now. I have it with a 2.4Ghz Core Duo, 4GB OCZ DDR2-800 RAM and a 7900GTX with 512MB GDDR3. It handles photoshop CS3 great, although I wouldn't recommend getting a model with any less RAM or GPU than this one.

I'll sell you mine. C2D 2.5 or 2.6GHz. 4GB RAM. 15.4" screen. Vista Ultimate. There is a sticker on it that says HP. I'm not sure who put it there. Only $1500.

Correct me if I'm wrong but they don't make them anymore right, so I'd have to get a used one?

Also, the lights that say XPS (on the top/lid not the sides) can you change the color of those or are they set?
