Problems with EVGA X58 motherboard - Page 2

test the cards in a different rig

test the PSU by jumping it using the green and black wire method and hook up a bunch of fans

if both check out fine, I think your motherboard is toasted

can you give us the POST code it stops at?

He doesnt have another rig to test the cards on

I dont think he knows how to do the jumping method, even I barely remember how to do it

And theres no post code he says on the digital display, it just turns on for 3 seconds then powers off.

If he is your friend... bring his rig over and test it yourself

if there is no post code then the motherboard is dead for sure

1. Remove all video cards and see if you can get anywhere...
2. Make sure the 8-pin power is plugged in addition to the standard PSU plug...
3. Make sure that the DRAM is plugged into the correct slots for single, dual, or triple channel configurations...

I've had 3 Silverstone power supplies die on me in the last two years (all 850w and higher). Not saying its the PS, but I don't use silverstone any longer as a result.

Also make sure he is using the right DIMM slots for the RAM... that can be very tricky if you are not familiar with the x58 boards.
