9850 vs 9950

Thread Starter
Since my 9850 decided to commit suicide (actualy it was more like a Jack Kevorkian assisted suicide kinda deal) and im not patient enough to wait the 7-10 business days to get it back IF AMD does decide to replace it (slim chance im guessing even though its only 3 months old), should i get another 9850? Or spend the extra $10-20 and get the 9950? Is there that much of an OC differrence?

No difference really. One has the possibility for a higher overclock but thats given how lucky you might get. It is only 10 bucks so why not get the best.

if the difference is above 25 or so...I would get the cheaper.

Last I checked, there was a $40 difference between the two on Newegg (no idea why the sudden gap). If that's still true -- $159.99 for the 9850 and $199.99 for the 9950 -- get the 9850. If it's really just $10, get the 9950.

it's only a 100mhz difference. other than that, they're the same thing.

For the difference of $10 you might just as well go with the 9950. Stranger things have been known to happen than a higher model AMD overclocking better than a lower model. There isn't a fundamental difference other than a button push on AMDs end, but I would say just dish out the extra $10.
