Anyone here got 4ghz on a i7 920? - Page 4

I think that it's probably better to share the knowledge, and then let readers make the conscious decision to exceed those recommendations, rather than let them believe their approach is 100% safe and then wonder why they fried their CPU..

im close to hitting 4ghz im at 3.8 stable. As soon as I hit 4ghz I can get it to post and do some stuff, but if I put any sort of load on the cpu I get the BSOD. I took the vcore to 1.355 which after vdroop is like 1.31v the vqpi was set to 1.35 and the cpu pll was at 1.92 but couldn't even stress test. I have water cooling and temps never went over 55c at full load at 3.8ghz. but can not get stable over 4ghz I might try 3.99ghz and see if it would be stable.

Lo all, I've got a few questions myself I'm running the i7 920 2,66ghz @ 4ghz atm with a Cooler master cosmos case and Cooler master v8 cooler 37°C idle and around 55-65°C while gaming and yesterday my PC shut down on me, should I be worried? (Reached 68-70°C before it gave me a BSoD)

I'm also kinda new to the whole OC'ing thing; I just read someone OC'd theirs to 3,5ghz, anyone mind telling the values you used so I can lower it a bit to avoid any problems.

Thank you D:

68-70c is nothing to be worried about, thats perfectly normal temp.

Up your vcore and vtt more, it's safe to have your i7 between the 70-75c mark but anything higher is a bit too hot.

That depends entirely on where that reading is coming from. The socket, or the cores. I am assuming that is a reading from the socket and as such is getting pretty high. The cores throttle down at an internal temp @ 97c and shutdown somewhere just over 100c.

Get a program called Core Temp or Real Temp. They both read the temps at the cores. Those will be much higher if my assumption is true.

Let us know what you find.
