It's res does change if the FPS dips bow 60, but it says 1080 width and when it swaps - you don't see any difference
It is all depending on how well coded a game is. You should technically see crysis be easily rendered on a HD2900 no problem, but because of the bad code, ouch :|

There's a reason lots of games aren't even rendered at 720p on the PS3.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the cell processor in the PS3 more powerful at rendering graphics than the RSX?

You're right.
And bowman is wrong.

The reason a lot are 720p is down to the game designers. The PS3 is more than capable of running 1080.

3D gaming? Psshh who could forget this:

Useless trivia about this game: Produced by Square and featured music by Nobuo Uematsu.
Erm the PS3 is fully capable of 1080 and most games render at 720P fine on the ps3.

Lol TM 3D uses OLD 3d technology. It does it by splitting the colours up and then moves them a few mm apart. The glasses with filters on them then put them together to produce a crappy 3d effect.

Most modern 3d technology uses 2 different viewports that are out of alignment. The glasses then shift these together in 3D. This uses the glasses which aren't coloured and have that grated effect to it, you know the glasses you wear when you go to see a 3D show at Disney.

That is old technology now, where most expensive 3D technology is embedded into the screen. There are lenses infront of the monitor which rotate so you are in a 3d world without glasses. Im guessing the PS3 will support this however my bet is on the PS3 either counting on 3D glasses like in the 3D cinemas or some sort of a cross between the Nvidia Glasses and the 3D cinema ones.

Who know, they may even do the 3D effects like this:

Hahaha, finally MTBS was mentioned on this site! I've been a member of that place since day one as I'm a stereo guy myself.

No, it's not, it doesn't have dedicated hardware for texture filtering and the like. If games ran graphics on the Cell, which they don't, they'd be horribly slow.

Imagine if you could retort to some of the arguments rather than just saying I'm wrong and that's that.

Agreed..

finally someone with the brains and the brawns to tell it how it is. i smile at posts like these. how hard is it to understand, the thing is 2+yrs old, games get better looking, and it DOESNT get anymore powerful. its a joke of a console, and was to begin with. damn, a $70 9600gso plays games at higher settings and res than the ps3.

Where are you getting this information? The fact that Crysis runs as well as it does with so much going on in the scene is crazy.
