QX6850 Core Temp Readings

Thread Starter
Hey!

I was just checking Core Temp and was kinda unsure about what the readings meant other than the temps.

What does the "Frequency" part mean? It idles at that number 1999, but sometimes when I'm opening programs it jumps up to 2999

Is that the speed of my processor? Because I thought it was supposed to be 3GHz flat?

You have C1E on. Turn off Speedstep and you'll have 3GHz constant

I have never heard of "C1E" or "Speedstep" before...

I'm really a noob when it comes to this technical stuff. I'm not complaining about the speed, I was just wondering what that frequency thing was.

What's the point of C1E and Speedstep? To save energy or something?

Well, somewhat, yes, but if you're OCing, it's rather annoying and can lead to instability. I would personally just disable Intel Speedstep in your bios along with thermal throttling.

You have intentions of OCing that thing right?

C1E and SpeedStep are power management facilities which reduce the processor's core voltage and multiplier during certain circumstances. SpeedStep works when the CPU load is low, while C1E works when the CPU core is completely idle and the OS issues a HLT instruction meaning it has completely run out of things for the processor to do.

If power management bothers you, you can disable them.
