8600gt=? - Page 3

post #21 of 39
This is a very interesting question, lol.

I used to run 8600GTS's in SLI. And they were on par and sometimes beat an 8800GTS 320MB (G80). I was able to play Crysis on all High @ 1280x800 with no problems, but other games were just too buggy with SLI'd cards.

Single card, a single 8600GTS can max out COD4 without AA. Again, I've personally done it, and it got about 50-70 FPS on average (fully playable). I've long since passed my 8600's on to friends, but they are still fully enjoying those cards. I can provide proof of 3DMark scores as well if need be.

EDIT:
To answer the OP's question:
I wouldn't buy one of those cards these days however. 8800GS, 8800GT 512MB, 8800GTS 512MB, 9600GSO, 9600GT, 9800GT/GTX are all much better cards and all are within the same price range usually. ATI cards have the HD4670, 4830, 4850, 4870, 4850x2, 4870x2. The ATI Cards I listed are in price order (and performance) from lowest to highest. Any of the cards I just listed are great performers...it just depends on your budget.

He specifically said he isn't going to run them in SLI, he is only talking about one card.

Most your opinions are totally wrong about the 8600gt eithier you don't know what your talking about or you never had one... 8600gt was a good card I have 2 of them 1 for htpc and one sitting around not in use cause i got my 4870 but the 8600gt could run crysis on medium NO PROBLEM AT ALL! UT3 NP AT ALL at 1024x768 for both games. ut3 could play on max settings at that res! I KNOW THIS IS TRUE CAUSE I OWN 2 of them!

You never notice the lower graphics quality when your busy fragging people eithier it's only when you nit pic or play most peoples favorite game 3dmark06 or vantage. 8600gt was and is still very cheap! IT was been known on many charts in the past for best performance/price fps/dollar and you all talk down about it.... REMEMBER this card was still around when there was not 8800gt just a 8800gts that cost 400 bucks 8600gt was only 130 canadian... if that.

And the ati card that compares most closely to this card i would say is the 2600xt but newer cards are out so there are probably better and cheaper contenders. So i would recommend maybe a 4830 or 4850 depends on your budget... best of luck
