What do do?

Hi everyone

I'm gonna get Vista 64 bit soon and I need to know some stuff.

1) Which edition should I get? I mostly play games and barely anything else

2) I'm thinking of a clean install and backing up important stuff onto dvds lol
Is this a smart thing to do? Or should I just do a upgrade without losing stuff??

3) Will I see more fps going from home premium to ultimate?

Thanks

I would go with Home Premium, it seems to be the most popular, unless you need drive encryption for some reason.
Personally I would back up and do a clean install but that is just me. I always like having a clean install because it runs really fast, at least until I start putting more crap on.
There shouldn't be any change in fps between the two versions.

Thankyou very much rep+

But I will get more fps using service packs right?

Oh and is the Vista installing process the same for me? (im using home premium 32bit)

Yes, the install process is exactly the same for 32 or 64 bit. Vista Basic through Ultimate, its all the same install process.

I'd recommend Vista Home Premium x64. Best bang per buck with Vista.

In my opinion, I always want ALL of the options...so I went for Vista Ultimate x64....and haven't looked back......though I haven't really looked at the price difference...

I recommend to back up files and do a clean install.

It's always a better idea to do a clean install over an upgrade.

There's no reason to get Ultimate. It's pointless compared to Home Premium.

Just grab a copy of Home Premium, back up your data to a bunch of DVD-Rs, then begin the new install.

Cheers.

HP and B are both really nice.

You can't upgrade from x86 to x64, so a clean install is a must.

The fps depends on which service pack you're getting.
And I agree with sdfreitag86, I would go with home premium too.

As Locool said, you can not upgrade from 32 to 64 bit, it must be a clean install.
As far as versions, Premium is what most need. Ultimate has a few extras that are nice, but most are available for cheap or even free from other places.
You may also look at Vista Business, it is kind of between Premium and Ultimate, but the biggest thing is it does not have Windows Media Center.
You will see no difference in gaming between any of the versions of Vista.
