Is it just me, or is the OP's OC a little hampered by using 4x 512 modules instead of 2x 1 G modules???

It might be a little, but I doubt it. Look at pioneerislouds rig. Hes got 4dimms occupied and running one hell of an OC on his.

Update: I have started over on my oc with knowledge I have received since joining OCN and have gotten it up to 2.64ghz at 1.4v http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=466037. I am off next week so I plan on tweaking it some more. I am not sure if its related to having 4 dimms...but whenever I try to set my Memclock Index Value to 400mhz the rig won't even boot. Guess I need to read up on that a little more.

Actually that problem you are referring to is a KNOWN problem with Socket 939 chips. When running 4 sticks of RAM, you are limited to DDR333, and a 2T command rate. Anything past THAT, is considered an overclock at that point.

That's my guess as to what your problem is. When running 4 sticks of RAM and trying to get DDR400+, its really all up to the memory controller on your particular CPU. You're doing quite well so far though .

BTW, if you haven't already, you might want to check out the Socket 939 club (link in my sig) . Lots of helpful people in there to get your overclock worked out.

Also, I love how you went from a e2180 @ 3.6 to an e5200 @ 3.7. Not much of a difference there now is it? Especially since they are both Core 2 Duo's, and only clocked 100MHz apart .

And that was with outdated drivers (175.19), those drivers kill my framerate in games by literally almost 50% as opposed to some of the newer drivers (180.xx).

I notice a very nice difference from my e2180. With my e2180 @3.6Ghz running one 9600GT I was able to score 12,200 in 3dMark06. With 2 9600GTs I only score 12,400. I've played Quake wars with both setups and and so as I installed my e5200. I quickly clocked it to 3.5Ghz and got a huge increase in quake wars and 3Dmark06. I've scored over 16,000 with this setup and I'm now able to max out the setting on Quake wars and give a little AA and keep solid 60fps with vsync on. Huge difference over my e2180 that just could not push both these 9600GTs.

45nm is a huge difference vs 65nm with almost like fsb and cache. e5200 does have 2MB vs 1MB on the e2180. I believe it's the newer Arch that makes the differnce.

Yes, most games are GPU dependent, but the GPU and CPU compliment each other. Don't what him to feel his second card pruchase wasn't worth the price.

Sturmangriff, I would stick with single GPU for now. Your CPU could prbly push a couple 6 or 7 series cards, but any higher just wouldn't scale like it should. If you don't feel like upgrading your CPU and board soon just get a bigger GPU vs SLi. IMHO

3dm06 is VERY CPU based, to get a good idea if your SLI is actually doing something 3dm03 is a better one to run. That one is almost purely GPU based, I literally double my score between 1 card and 2. I get similar results with 3dm05. But even in 3dm06 I dont see the higher end cards doing considerably better than mine is SLI.

I dont doubt that theres some slight bottlenecking going on but its not as horrible as people make it out to be.

That's kinda funny, because I don't have a single problem maxing out even Crysis (without AA) at my resolution. I think the problems that you were having were just some odd problems, or you're taking 3DMark06 a little too seriously.
