Stabilize My Q9450 @ 3.6 Ghz

Specs are in sig. I get stuttering sound (tongue-trill speed) and total lockups every two hours or so, give or take.

I notice my CPU voltage alternates between 1.18V and 1.31V using uGuru (Stepping?)

Voltages!

FSB: 450
MULT: 8

VCore: 1.3575V
DDR2: 2.1V
MCH 1.25V: 1.52V
ICHIO 1.5V: 1.55V
CPU VTT: 1.43V
DDR2 REF: 0%
ICH 1.05V: 1.05V

Temp Idle: 33C
Temp Load: 52C

You can't take more vcore so I would say you are stuck. Try giving a little more volts to the ram or even running the ram at lower speeds. 800mhz or so is high enough.

Hmmmm yeah I thought about the RAM bottlenecking me. However the manufacturer states 2.1 is the spot for these sticks (although I heard that 2.1 is max value, I think he may have just been too conservative).

On the other hand, I've had about the same success when moving up to 463 x 8, for 3.7 Ghz or so. Then again with OC's on this chip with users like Ransom (3.8-4.0?!) I'm not quite sure what to expect. Especially since his VCORE, etc. are so low.

If you haven't already, try turning off EIST and C1E in your BIOS.

RAM bottlenecking?!

Try by increasing the RAM voltage.

lol it's 4:30 AM forgive my newbality.

For now I've changed my settings to pull the RAM down from 1100's to the 900's. I'll have to try disabling those as well. Not sure what they may be referred to as on this board but I'll look around.

Screw it. I finally get it going alright with 436 x 8, lower the RAM to 960ish, go to Prime 95 it and my 3rd core spouts off temps up to 71 degrees while the other 3 are at 35...

So I take off the piece of garbage screw-in heat sink, reapply paste according to Arctic Silver's little horizontal line method, screw it back in, temps are fine for 5 minutes of Prime 95 and machine crashes. Won't boot. Only starts up when the sink fan is off the mobo long enough to POST error beep at me. Otherwise, wish CPU fan plugged in, it starts for .5 seconds and goes to BIOS error 99, boot loop.

About ready to take a pickaxe to the whole damn box.

Just calm down. It happens to every built P.C.

Try clearing your CMOS. Also, tighten your heatsink as much as possible on all four corners; it makes a big difference.

Yeah I've given it a break entirely for today. Just frustrated to find a new issue when the old one still exists. I removed the sink and reapplied paste a second time and was able to boot, however now the temperatures don't change at all when Windows loads. They show as 22C ish for all cores, with core 3 at 65C at idle... I must say I'm worried.

Prime95 still causes crashing even at previously stable levels.

Especially since I haven't overvolted this thing once and it may be degrading, or something else crazy is going on... :\\ I'll keep this updated if I gather the patience for another round.

How much paste are you using? Less is always better than more when it comes to thermal paste....

Also if you're getting different readings on different cores; it could mean that the heatsink isn't tight enough or that you're getting bad readings.
