Stabilize My Q9450 @ 3.6 Ghz - Page 2

Doing some observations in BIOS - after I've reapplied paste after doing a thorough cleaning with isopropyl alcohol 3 times with Arctic Silver 5, spreading it horizontally in a thin line as recommended by the site for quads - CPU Temp reads 50-55, and then jumps to 250-265, which is utterly wrong. I boot up the machine and SpeedFan shows 30, 29, 28 at load, with core 3 at 65C. The temps appear to move now, also. I've disabled the shutdown for core temps and left the beep on, which will go off above 75C. The chip is rated for 71.5C.

Weird part is that with speedfan "System" is the flame icon at 51 degrees, CPU is the flame icon at 72C, but the core 3 itself shows at 65C still.

Bad sensors I'm thinking. Either that or my sink is marred microscopically above core 3. It's sitting as stable as I can see. The sink has a band with two screws that screw into the fitting on either side, stretching the metal over the sink to the board. I'd figure if it were sitting funny, I'd have weird temps on more than 1 core.

On an odd note, Realfan shows completely different numbers than what BIOS and SpeedFan show. Idle at 39-41C, load at 65-68C which sounds about right, high, but about right for 1.35v on the VCORE and 463x8.

Another update. Seems to be kickin pretty solid now. I notice a few crashes at idle, which I may attribute to vdroop? Once again, all the fun power stepping crashfests have been disabled, and my voltage drops from 1.31 to 1.18 according to uGuru.

May have to make another thread in Intel Motherboards, but does anyone know if you can pencil mod the vdroop fix for the IP35 Pro XE? Soldering that small makes me nervous.
