Maximus Extreme cannot get stable help!!

Thread Starter
Hi guys,

I am in currently putting my rig together as I speak and I have everything hooked up but I could not get the system stable. I have a feeling that it is the RAM that is causing it. Please help me.

Here is my exact system spec.

Intel QX6850
******** 9800 gt 1gb
Corsair Dominator 2x2gb @1800mhz CM3X2G1800C8D 8-8-8-24 1.8v
Asus Maximus Extreme
FSP kingcraft 1000w psu
Stock cpu fan
WD 500gb

During startup it will pause saying that the overclock failed and that I need to fix my bios setup.

THanks!!!
Big Ben

Update the BIOS. RAM might be the responsible, and also, I wouldn't recommend overclocking with a stock cooler. Increase the NB voltage a little bit, then set more some FSB and try again. That's a good motherboard, so, I think the problem is somewhere else.

I found that with my Maximus Extreme (traded it in for a Rampage Formula ... and went back to DDR2), I had to run really high NB voltages to run high clocked ram. I needed 1.5v to the NB (only running a 380 FSB) just get get the ram around 1600. So all I can really recommend is increasing the NB voltage, or lower the ram speed.

pls list your bios setting, I'm running my q6600 @ 3.8 right now with 4 sticks of ram!! you know that's stressing the NB! one thing you have to be careful with is the Boost setting, this really effects how stable your comp is. Ill take pics of my bios for you when I get home. (about 4 hrs from now)

edit: for instance I can only get stable over 3.6 with boost set to 1

Okay thanks a lot..

I already flashed my bios with the newest one (1202) but still no luck. huh.

I will try to copy my bios setting and post it here in a few minutes..
thanks guys..

Also I will try lowering the RAM speed.

As of now CPU-z is reading my cpu speed @ 2003mhz and x6 multiplier and 333fsb my DRAM frequency is 667.9mhz 1:2 8-8-8-24 2T.

I think my system is really messed up right now although I can still get into windows. I am using it rightnow to type this message.

Thanks for the help guys

FSB:RAM ; 1:1 (would be better this way)

is that the recommened ram from corsair? I thought the c7dfs were and same speed as yours at 1800mhz. I was able to get my super stable (I miss my max. extreme board) no issues whats so ever with a 1:1 ratio.

Check your RAM voltage as well, if you've got it on auto, manually input the voltage. Once you fix the RAM you won't have any problems OCing since your CPU has an unlocked multiplier and you really don't need to mess with the FSB that much.

Honeslty I do not know how to set that rario to 1:1..

This is my first High end (if I could say ) motherboard and I only have little experience messing with the bios...

Here is my bios setting right now and this is the only config where I do not get any error messages during startup:

CPU level up--Auto
Memory level up--Auto
AI OC Tuner--XMP profile 2
CPU ratio setting--7.0
Fsb strap to NB--Auto
Pcie frequency--100
DRAM frequency--Auto
DRAM command rate--2T
DRAM timing control--manual
CAS-8
RAS to CAS-8
RAS pre charge-8
RAS active time-24
the rest of the memory timings are in auto
DRAM stATIC read control--Auto
DRAM dynamic write control--Auto
AI clock twister--Auto
AI clock skew channel A--Auto
AI clock skew channel B--Auto
CPU spead spectrum--Auto
PCIE speed spectrum--Auto

I hope somebody will post an stable bios setting for me..
THanks guys a lot!!
