GRID conflicting with 4870x2?

I upgraded to 8.12 tonight and nearly learned an expensive lesson. I had RivaTuner 2.20 setup to switch between fan duty cycles depending on the core temp of the hotter core.

I fired up some GRID and much to my dismay RivaTuner gave up on my 4870x2 and let the core temps soar to 100*C.

Installing 2.21 as we speak (supports 8.12), Anyone else have this problem?

So I thought I'd try rolling back to 8.11's to see if this new problem is driver-related and now I get the error crap about ATI graphics adaptor not installed or something to that effect. Man I'm getting frustrated with this dang card. If it's not one thing it's another. :swearing:

I made some progress with this tonight. Problem exists no matter which combination of 8.11/8.12 and Riva 2.20/2.21 I use. I can play single player GRID for as long as I want and Riva happily manages my temps. Soon as I fire up online multiplayer Riva stops controlling the 4870x2's fan and temps climb until the BIOS goes into 'save me' mode and kicks the fan on full-speed.

Also, after playing GRID online, my monitor refuses to go into power save (off) mode.

Any ideas?

Maybe Grid thinks Rivatuner is some kind of cheat and disables it :?
