Gigabyte HT question

Thread Starter
Hi I recently bought my friends old Gigabyte GA M57SLI-S4 and i was wondering, where the heck is the hyper transport multiplier setting? i had it with my Asus M2A-MVP but it wouldnt Hold My Vcore settings (they would stay the same in bios but not show up on even the most recent Cpu-z and certainly didnt give me much OC headroom.) Would a Bios update solve either of these problems and which board should yield better OC results?

Thanks ahead of time

In a nutshell the HT multiplier multiplies the bus speed to get it up to 1000mhz mark, i think. Something like that

It should be around the 1000 mark

ie. 200mhz bus speed x 5 (HT multiplier)= 1000

to overclock you need to increase the bus speed, but lower the HT multiplier to keep the ratio to 1000 right

I think, its been awhile since I played with an AMD

Ugh i just Blue screened, i failed to catch the error something SYSTEM_SERVICE....
only bluescreens when i run orthos i can play crysis or supreme commander just fine, but i double checked and there is no option in my bios that allows the tweaking of the HyperTransport Multiplier kinda annoying really seeing as this Gigabyte board cost me more than my Asus M2A-MVP

Update: ill Try again with orthos and either report orthos' error or the bluescreen's error

Welcome to OCN!

Did you try pressing Control F1 going into the BIOS? Gigabyte boards have some hidden BIOS options that are accessed that way.

Seems to be an issue with my ram, unlocking those hidden settings allows me to manually change timings and frequency so ill be taking a look into that so far ive gotten orthos to stop erroring every second while testing my ram specifically down to one error 18 seconds now at 533mhz Like clockwork. God i am never buying cheap ram again!
thanks again btw it looks like i need new ram if i want to push my core any further

You need to drop your RAM:CPU ratio.

Since your are increasing your clock, you have to drop both HT and RAM ratio.
Once again...

Sorry, is it possible for ram to become unstable if you underclock it too far? and is this going a little too far off topic? if so ill start a new thread in the appropriate location.
