upgrade from razer ac-1 to xonar (d1 or dx)?

Thread Starter
Hello,

I am currently using the razer barracuda ac-1 for a sound card and was thinking of purchasing a new sound card. Would the xonar provide an improved pc gaming experience?

Also, are there any audible differences between the pci and pci-e versions?

Thank you for any help.

1. What's wrong with the razer? I like mine.

2. Not really.

the PCI-E is generally to be avoided, as the drivers are still a little flaky, they get the job done and all, but not at full capacity. There may be a slight audio difference, but I'm not sure as I have heard neither card... although a D2X Xonar would be a jump in audio quality... or an X-Fi prelude...

i have had a razer and have a xonar (and an x-fi) the xonar has more sounds options but uses the same chipset and sound pretty much the same.
for pc gaming you want an x-fi

How are the drivers for X-Fi's these days? Specifically for Vista 64 bit? I've heard a lot of stories of horrible driver support (Creative and Auzen).

Thank you for suggestion. Initially, I did not want to purchase an X-Fi (hence the Xonar), but seeing as how the razer and xonar (d1 or dx) use the same chipset, i don't know what else there is. I don't really want to spend approximately $200 for a sound card and I feel the razer is a bit flat in regards to gaming.

I have the Razor and was not very happy with it. I bought the ASUS Zoner DX2 PCIe and love it. The difference is enormous between the two. And that is just through headphones cause that is all I use. I kinda got sick of the creative thing. Below is a link for the DX2. If you purchase it before Dec 28, with rebate it will cost you only $142.99.
Too me it was for sure worth it. I do gaming and the sound is awesome. At first it took some getting used to cause I wasnt used to such good sound, but now I have no problem.

You can get the d1 pretty cheap. I needed a pci card anyway because my pcie slots are too close to my vid card.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...dlist=celebros

It's 54.99 with MIR.

dx is a buck less from zipzoomfly

And don't worry about gaming, it's almost as good as eax5.0 and you don't have to muck around with alchemy every time you want to play a game.

If you want to go through the rebates the Xonar D1 is actually $64.99 on Newegg.
