Help me choose which cooler

Thread Starter
Hey, just registered after reading through the Official Air Cooled Gallery Post (really cool) and making my first post.

I currently have a Core 2 Duo E8400 with the stock cooler and am looking to get one of the below for Christmas. Anyways, Ive done my research and I've narrowed my choices down to 2 CPU coolers, the Zalman 9700 or the Tuniq Tower 120 LED. The price difference between them does not matter to me.

I have an Antec 900 and an Asus P5Q Pro. Having the side fan in my Antec removed is not an issue, I don't even use it at the moment.

My primary concern is that occasionally I transport my PC in my car. I pack my Antec back in the box it came with sandwiching it between those 2 styrofoam holders and then put the box in my car for a 4 hour drive on interstate roads to and from my college townhouse. I have read some horror stories about the Tuniq warping motherboards during travel so for that reason I am slightly leaning towards getting the Zalman.

However does anyone have any input or similar experiences moving and traveling with your case with either of these relatively huge heatsinks installed? Which would you recommend to me?

I do plan to overclock my CPU however, getting the sickest stable overclock is not the most important thing to me. I just want to be able to OC a moderate amount and not have to worry about anything burning up.
Thanks in advance for any response.

PS. When I order one of the above, should I just go ahead and grab a tube of Arctic Silver 5, or is the stock paste included with either of the heatsinks good enough?

I would reconsider your choices and go with the Xigmatek HDT-S1283 instead... it triumphs over both the Tuniq Tower and 9700, is cheaper than both, and weighs less too

Also, it wouldn't hurt to get some Arctic Silver 5, OCZ Freeze or other higher end thermal paste... the stock stuff for most coolers suck

I just want to say that you CAN use the side fan on a 900 with the Zalman 9700, depending on what motherboard you have. it works great with a 780i, but looking into my case right now, if the CPU socket was a little lower on the board they may touch... but it would probably still work, just a little contact between the cooler and fan. I cannot comment on the other coolers that people have been recommending, as my Zalman is the only aftermarket cooler I have ever had (First personally owned PC as well..) But the 9700 is a great cooler.

This is true
I reccomend the Xigmatek HDT-S1283. Failing that go for the Tuniq.

the best at stock will most likely be best at an overclock. Unless a fan that is doing abysmal at stock will somehow through osmosis cool better in an overclock!?!

For thermal paste get some tuniq tx-2. On reviews it outperforms everything except that diamond stuff.
