core i7 multiplier jumping to 224 (/and) questions about core i7

Thread Starter
1. yes i was wondering if anyone has any information on this. cpu id and easy tune 6 is reading that my cpu's multiplier goes from 12-16 then on to 21 (2.8ghz) then it jumps to 224 30,000mhz (30ghz) and then reapeats from multiplier of 12 again? this has to be a bug and gigabyte knows nothing about it. i did 2 instals and on the first install i did'nt notice this problem however HPET (high precision event timer was set to either disable or 32bit (dont rember but whatever default was) then on the second instal i had HPET set to 64bit and once all updates done i have this problem, it must be a bug i hope. does anyone know anything about this?

2. is there any detailed information on all of the core i7 features and what they mean, such as ioh uncore frequency ect?

3. can memtest be run in windows vista? also where can i download the latest version / what is the latest version.

4. what is the corect PCI-E speed for the 9800gtx graphics card in this system

thanks for the help

system specs: core i7 920
Gigabyte EX58-DS4
OCZ 3x1gb ddr3 1333 fatality 1.5-1.6v memory cas 7 (has XMP but i did the timings manually and disabled XMP)

you have one of the rare golden chips that can reach 30G on air.
I would do a superpi run whenever it jumps to 224.

i would use cpu-z anyway since they keep the s/w up to date for the i7

Get validation for when you get 30 GHz on air.

Sometimes.

I believe 100 is the default for all boards though you can overclock that if you want to say 110 but not too high or you may loose read/write stability (So ive heard). All it does is increase your PCI-E bus speed NOT YOUR GPU so it wont really help much as far as performance. Some people say their overclocks are more stable when they have a higher PCI-E speed.

lol i wish it was a golden chip haha, i know thats impossable must be a bug but never known cpu-id to give false information, not sure how to fix this, and my hopes are that it is a bug it fluctuates so it don't stay at 30ghz for but a second or 2. but if it aint a bug id hate to know the damage that is causing for even a milosecond

Watch it in CPU-Z and hit F7 as soon as it reads 30GHz. Validation file is in the CPU-Z folder, post a screenshot when you're done!

it's a bug im sure. but i caught it again and hit F7 not sure it did anything, however i took a print screen. will try to validate it not sure what exactly that means but will try again tommorow it's random about every 5`30 seconds it does that. however i did notice the print screen i got seems to be of different caliber then what i was seeing. however i did change some settings in bios because this is a new system and i don't upgrade much can't afford to, i upgraded from a pentium D, i know the basics of overclocking but have hardly no knowledge of the core i7 so iv been on the safe side rather then be sorry. still tryin to search and figure out what the settings mean and whats safe, such as uncore , IOH, quick path, ect, before i do any real overclocking. and took everything off the lowest setting and put things on auto for now but i may go back to all lowest don't wanna burn the new cpu lol.

and i do have the latest bios

(side note) - wish there was a overclocking guide on the EX58-DS4 gigabyte board. been searching google to no avail. lol
