My parents s754 athlon was shutting down due to the cpu side vent screen full of cat hair. That was nasty but the case was still clean.

Ok, Update guys! sorry soo late! , Soo he blew off dust made it look like it was brand new. We put her in and the temp was 38c and 46c on a average load.

This is from 68c and 95c ,

My dad would have never known and the CPU would blow up; he makes fun of me checking temps left and right, but good thing I did on his Rig, he was greatful all was well. thanks guys!

Clean out the computer with compressed air. Reseat the heatsink like so :

You do realise that it doesn't matter how you apply it as long as you have a super-thin, even coating over 100% of the IHS when you are done, right?

Heh, I bet the thermal paste is also dry and cooked on

I think a reseat with some good thermal paste would be a good idea as well

I know a guy that works on computers for a living, he asked if I wanted to see something cool. He showed me a few pentium 4's with blow heatsinks, they got so hot the heatsink cover on the cpu blew off.
