(2) HD 4850 512MB in Xfire

or

(2) HD 4850 1GB in Xfire

I currently have (1) 512MB card. I can either buy the one, or if the performance is noticible enough i can buy two of the other and give the 512mb version to the wife. I dont just want a reason to give the wife the card though as i already planned on buying her a 4650.

Number 2, since more games are becoming VRam hungry.

Give the better card (4850) to your wife!

I don't think upgrading to two 1gb versions will make any difference on your 19 inch monitor, just get another 512 in my opinion.

the 1GB will be better... It has a 256-bit bus so it should be able to optimize on the larger memory size.

However, I myself do not think the performance difference warrants buying another card so you can have dual 1GB's.

You wont see that much difference from 1GB over 512MB, especially if it's 1GB of slower RAM.

I would just buy another 4850.

Well if you're running a 24" @ 1920x1200, in your position I would get some 4870s...
