Display messed up after driver install

Thread Starter
Stuck in 4-bit 800x600 after installing nVidia drivers. This is on a fresh format on a freshly built computer.

Operating system: XP SP1A
CPU: Socket 478 P4 3.2GHz
Mobo: This... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813130178
Graphics: 8600 GTS
Driver: 178.24

Display looked normal running off XP's drivers...then I installed nVidias and I'm stuck in 4-bit 800x600. Can't change it. Checked device manager and it is in fact using nVidia driver which I installed.

Thoughts? What could it be/what could I do about it?

I had the same problem with Windows XP.
Install SP2 and you should be fine.

I was afraid of that^ but I found the driver disk for the card which had some version of the driver that worked (I figured I'd be best off downloading the latest driver online hence why I didn't do that first). Thanks though
