Using Tuniq Tower .. high idle temps

My setup:
E6400 C2D
BFG 7600gt
Asus P5b deluxe
xclio goodpower 500w
250GB HD
Dvd burner

WHY is my idle temp at 44C with a freaking tuniq tower?? Yes i did install it correctly!! i was reading the egg reviews for the tuniq tower and they say around 30C idle..

Also i did not overclock anything, i wanted to lower my temp before i do

I hate to answer your question with questions, but it's sort of necessary:
1) What is your room's ambient temperature? How about your case temperature?
2) What case do you have and how is the airflow?
3) Did you use the stock paste or something like Arctic Silver 5?
4) Is the tuniq tightened down all the way?
5) Is the fan running at 100%?

1) I dont know exactly im guessing ~21C. According to Speedfan my system temp is 49C
2)This is the case i have
3)I use arctic silver 5
4) Yes
5)No, its at its lowest, but even when i put it on max it lowers CPU temp by like only 2C

I would have to imagine the case is the offender here. That has god awful airflow if you haven't added any fans to it. Try adding a 120mm intake fan.

Try laying your case on its side, so that the tuniq is above the cpu, and check again. If the temperature goes down, you either need to tighten it more, or do something else to make sure the big heavy heatsink doesn't pull itself off the cpu. I put a thick piece of cardboard (or more so, several pieces) between it and the window of my case, keeping pressure on it.

Oh, and depending on how its oriented, it may be blowing the hot air into the case, rather than out the fan in the back.

I just added a couple fans, still not lower than 42C

I just triple checked everything, its tightened to the max. I did lay it down and the temp went up by 1-2C. And yep i made sure the fan is blowing in the right direction -> from in to out

Can it possibly be my CPU?

I'm not familiar with the E6400s, and whether they put out a lot of heat. One thing's for sure, there's no reason your temperature should have gone UP when you laid your case on its side <.<

How long ago did you apply the thermal paste? I see my temperatures continually drop over the course of a few weeks as the Arctic Silver 5 sets.

well i actually just reapplied it yesterday thinking that may have been the problem... but im still getting same temps as i did before

Use CoreTemp instead of speedfan.

And what are your load temps? Use OCCT to stress CPU.

Also did you apply the thermal paste according to Arctic Silver instructions?
