With the Q9550 I think I will have the fastest computer in my county

I live in a very small county, pretty poor, and not many computer literate people live here. I'm getting the Q9550 for christmas, and i'm going to try to get it up to at least 3.6ghz. I was thinking, wow I might just have the fastest computer in the county, but then it just dawned on me, what about the PS3's cell proc, I mean I know it is fast, but does it spank the Q9550? I've tried looking on google for an answer, but no luck.

It'll spank it in certain things, but get beat horribly in others.

The cell folds FAR better than any Q9550 ever will, and it's generally better at number crunching tasks, but it lacks the instruction sets that the Q9550 has and an x86 license.

As far as FLOPS go, i think the cell has it all over a Q9550.

The UD3P and the Q9550 are a fantastic match. Everyone is hitting 4.0 with them. I Love my q9550 and wish I bought that board

that is like comparing a GPU with a CPU

GPU's spank cpus as far as raw processing power and highly parallel applications, but in single threaded performance a CPU will eat a gpu/cell's lunch

Ahh I see now, thanks for explanations guys! I live in Screven County Georgia, we don't have much going for it technology wise I would say, but who knows there could be some kid hiding in his basement with a skulltrail build. I didn't know I was comparing a GPU to a CPU, I thought the cell proc was a CPU , my noobishness coming through. And yes I'm really excited about getting the EP45-UD3P, I think the only thing that will be holding me back is heat, I will be using a Bigtyphoon to keep it cooled. If I really get some spare money I might make a loop for the Proc only so I can overclock further.

You'll need a new cooler. The Big Typhoon isn't up to cooling modern quads.

I've heard that a lot, but it isn't the VX version, mine is the original with the bolt retention system. I know I'm not going to get TRUE results, but it will have to hold me over for a while until I can afford to WC this beast.
