faulty diamond 4870 512mb gddr5

I cant even raise the clock by 5mhz or i will crash in game. Do you guys think its my bad luck and i stumbled onto a faulty model? The card doesnt even get hot when it crashes only around 58C

Could be. Does it crash in ati tool too or other games as well with that slight oc?

I have a similar issue with one of my 4850's. I am yet to test each one individually though, because I haven't required the extra speed as of late.

right now i was playing crysis warhead with stock speeds and it crashed and i got the atikmdag stopped responding bs...

try turning the cards fan speed up, i get display drivers stop responding errors when my card overheats i forget the exact error though but thats the jist of it, if not check out the powersupply with an older card. 550W doesnt seem like alot for a 4870

Id try to reinstall drivers before blaming the card.
If it still does it then you better look into getting the card replaced.

well the card got to 62C playing crysis stock speeds and stock fan speeds, thats not to hot for a graphic card is it?

did you tab out to check temps or have a program monitor the temps in the background and graph it? when you tab out the card usually drops in temperature by alot. like mine my card is 70-80C while playing a game as soon as i tab it drops to around 60C. idle is 40-50 depending on room temp just download gpu-z and have it monitor temp in background you can drag mouse accross the line showing the temp at that time and i think 4870 can take up too 100C i dont know though someone else will have to tell you that one
