Finished dual boot but no grub screen.... - Page 2

If you're dual booting with Windows, you should never install GRUB to the MBR, unless it's on a totally separate drive from the Windows installation. Instead, install GRUB to the partition which contains /boot (which then needs to be set bootable with fdisk or gparted or Windows DISKPART.EXE). Then everything will work.

OK, I'm sorry man. I'm not sure where /boot is.

I assume my root partition?

/boot is the directory where your kernel and its associated startup files are stored. It's USUALLY, but not always, on its own partition. So it depends on where you put it.

I assume it's on the partition of root. I have a root and a swap partition. So it has to be on root right?

In all my past dual boots, putting grub in the mbr worked fine I believe. First time on vista though.

BTW, I'm blaming all this on my raid configuration. lol

I've installed ubuntu a million times, but it wasn't the alternate CD. So it's either raid or alternate.

If you didn't make a separate /boot partition, then that's where it would be, and that's where you want to install grub.

OK, I finally got around to trying this mess again and... *face-palm*

EVERYTHING goes fine during the install, but grub does not load. It boots straight to Vista. I thought if I selected "no" to installing grub to my MBR it would allow me to install it on the ubuntu root partition, but it does not. I tried lilo and nothing.

I downloaded easybcd which is supposed to help with problems like this, and nothing.

It has to have something to do with Vista and it's f'ed up MBR, because I have never had this much trouble with XP. Ugh.
