[VR-Z]Valve Inflicts European Gamers with $1 = €1 Equation - Page 12

I must admit, I only read the first four or so pages, but I find it funny how people think sometimes.

Masses: Holy crap this game costs craploads, *post* *complain*

Capitalist: Holy crap this game costs craploads. *distributes game in a cheaper manor and makes money off of the obvious market niche* gametap anyone?

I mean come on. In a true, unregulated capitalistic economy that's how it works, but since the masses don't understand how competitive business environments work, they whine to the government until it's regulated, making it harder to lower prices, harder to innovate, and more difficult to get a company off the ground in the first place.

I'm not going to point at a specific nation or anything because all that would do is offend people. We don't have a choice where we're born. It costs money to move. And really any destination you pick won't be much better anyways.

I'm just saying that it's a lot easier to get things moving when you don't have a set of brick walls(regulations and taxes) in the way.

Valve/ea is the only game producer/distributor?

Didn't know that.

It was mentioned earlier, that someone bought a game that was available on steam from amazon.com for cheaper. They obviously didn't make as much money from the amazon.com deal as they would from steam, right?

Basically, what i'm saying is: If I put effort into making/distributing/producing anything (in this case, a game), then I should be allowed to set it at a price I see fit. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If someone else has a lower price, go for it. If nobody buys mine for whatever reason, I don't make a profit, and if i'm operating a huge company, negative profit is very very bad.

I realize that this is about exchange rates, but the same principal applies.

If Valve alienates the entire European market, Yeah, that's pretty dumb. They'll probably come up with some sort of explanation or fix for their situation. But What if they just don't like Europe that much? What if they can handle the revenue decrease? Or what if they are trying to compensate for trade laws that add to the price? It doesn't matter. They're making the game, and they're well within their rights to price it as they see fit regardless of what anyone thinks about it.

Valve permanently lost my business about 6 years ago, when Steam came out.

EA lost my business around the same time, as they haven't released a really good game in the last 6 years.

it's steam or EA..
Firstly, Steam is a form of DRM, one of the harsher ones actually.

Also, there are many choices that do not involve Steam or EA.

And Europeans would ***** just as much if they had to drive the same distances that Americans often do.

The states I've lived in are larger than the vast majority of european countries. My girlfriend used to have to commute 250km every single day. Even with "cheap" american fuel prices, she was paying more to get to school and back than for electricity, water, heat, and internet combined.

You can't look at american gas prices from a euorpean communter's perspective. This country is huge and sprawling; there are large open spaces, and there is no useful public transportation for 80% of the country.

Also, cars tend to be larger, and often for a good reason. I've always lived in northern states, and outside of the cities and suburbs, if your car can't manage ice and six inches of snow, you don't get to go anywhere for four months out of the year.

If the population density was higher and if there was effective public transportation, few people here would ***** if gas was 5 bucks a gallon cause they would only need to buy 1/10th as much as they do now.

All they have to do is employ the gift of game. Have a USA friend buy the game as a gift after they send some PayPal funds their way. Problem solved.

Suck its higher for you... Sucks I have to pay 8.75% sales tax and possibly an extra tax on a bunch of other stuff cuz I live in NYS. Oh well, get over it!

EDIT: this is like complaining that retaIL stores have higher prices on cables vs internet warehouses, you dont have to get it there.
