My Score is lower now?

Thread Starter
I just got a new motherboard earlier today, I got it set up and got a great clock easily out of my Q9550. So then I decided to bump up the clocks a little higher than usual on my 4870X2, so I could do a nice 3dMark03 Run and see a big improvement... or so I thought..

Before:
Asus Maximus Formula
Q9550 @ 3.7Ghz
4870X2 @ 790/990
Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit (fresh install)
3dMark03 - 83,415
Screenshot

After:
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P
Q9550 @ 4Ghz
4870X2 @ 800/1000
Windows XP Pro 32-bit (fresh install)
3dMark03 - 82,125
Screenshot

What happened?? Why is my score lower?

Could be the operating system, maybe need a bios update? The mobo could be 3 or 4 versions old by the time it shipped.

I remember hearing that the X2 cards perform better in Vista the drivers are more mature or something. Have you tried benching your new motherboard in vista?

Might be 3dmark03 is a bit outdated? Have you tried testing them on vantage/06 and seeing if it makes a difference.

need to see more details with the FPS. 4k series hardware, especially the 4870x2's, have a low bug in 03. GT2 and GT3 are where this bug occurs and will influence your scores a lot.

It might be the OS, If nothing else works then I will have to switch back to Vista. I updated the motherboard bios to the latest one before I did any overclocking, so that cant be it.

Hmmm, ok. No, no benches on vista yet.

Okay I noticed your GPU clock is at 500Mhz, Well for some reason when I start up my computer GPU0 is underclocked to 500Mhz. So now I have Rivatuner Force them to 750Mhz/900Mhz on startup.

Have you double checked in Rivatuner to make sure your video card is not being underclocked? Even if it reports 750mhz in the Overclocking tab, it may not be there. Just bump it to 755 or more hit apply, then bump it back to 750Mhz and then check the hardware monitor to make sure its at the correct speed.

EDIT: Also make sure to correct the memory speed too. I too noticed low scores for me and noticed this. So now I have Rivatuner force them to start @ 750/900 on startup.

I used Catalyst Control Center to overclock both to 900/1000, I checked the RivaTuner Monitor to make sure that both cores and memory went to 900/1000 when under load and they both do... So that's not it =/
