Q6600 @ 3.2 Stock Cooler - Page 2

you should get a tuniq tower 120. those aren't that expensive anymore. it would idle at 26c and load at 38c probably.
Stock cooler is designed for Stock clock speed. I would also say,go get an aftermarket cooler.

I think you can do 3.0Ghz with stock volts. or under 1.4.

1.48V for stock cooler is too high. I doubt you need that much voltage for 3.2GHz.
You can do at least 3.0GHz with a stock cooler, but depending on your other temperatures, it can be at the edge. Try some other TIM as well.

Don't bother. Install the T.R.U.E. you are getting and overclock that puppy to 3.6
Overclocking on the stock cooler is basically an oxymoron.

...Also - you can only bump your thread once every 24 hours, just a friendly reminder

My CPU needs 1.4 to hit 3.0 and I need 1.488* to reach 3.2

Hi Marvin,
Alto new to the OC world, I have been running close to 3.2GHz on my Q6600 with the stock cooler for 2 days now (Still waiting on my Xigmatek to get in!) But in any event I have reach a "monster" 34°c while playing Crysis on my new rig. Granted I have seven fans in my VERY well aired out case, so it is not impossible to run over 3GHz with the stock fan, but like others have pointed out, NOT recommended.

Before going out and buying aftermarket coolers make note of where your tower is.
Meaning:
How hot and cold does the room gets?
How much air circulates in that room?
How much air circulates around your tower?

Then you can evaluate better what after market cooler you need. My need if different than yours, my room is maybe warmer than yours, you maybe have a more compact case, All these factor weight on your decision to what Cooler to use.

Exemple:
1.My tower (Antec Nine Hundred) sits on my desk so it gets plenty of good ventilation. No obstructions.
2.My home office temperature is at most 21°c in the summer and 17°c in the winter.
3.I used EXCELLENT thermal paste (Arctic 5) in combination of 120mm fans in my tower.

Keeping your room cool and well aerated = cooler computer = cooler components
Work in progress!

You got a high VID, thus overclocking on stock cooler could cause some damages if you're not careful. Your chip will most likely need more voltage than others to reach 3ghz and high voltage on stock cooler = bye bye Q6600.

You could run at 2.7-2.8 while waiting for your TRUE.

I was talking about the voltages, arent they to high ? What should I be running ?
BDW my VID is 1.32

I'm pretty sure I can get 3.0 stable (I've also runned 3.4, whislt playing GTA IV, so you can call me mad )

later edit: untill I get the TRUE, I'll stick to 3.0
I have a high VID too, 1.325 in fact on my Q6600. Vcore is way too high for your cooling and what core clock you are looking for.

I'm at 3.0 gHz with Vcore- 3.1625 HT-1.3 NB-1.3 SB-1.5 FSB-1333 Mult. 9X
I run MAX 51C on prime 95 small FFT's and 48-49C on the some RAM some CPU testing.

But first and foremost get an aftermarket CPU cooler and GOOD thermal paste. You seem like the type who wants to push their system to the max so do NOT get cheap on cooling. Don't think of 70C as a safe zone, just because you may be right under 70C doesn't mean you are clear. 72C is the max heat tolerance of the Q6600 before it fries.
